What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is simply the science, art, and philosophy of all things natural. It emphasizes the relationship between the nervous system and the spine. Chiropractic focuses on the nervous system that controls every function and aspect of daily life.

Chiropractic focuses on the fact that the majority of the nerves leave the central nervous system (CNS) on their way to their destination through the spinal column. Because of the close proximity of the vertebrae to the nerves, any alteration in normal biomechanics can cause an alteration in proper nerve function. The result is a state of "disease" to occur in the end-organ of the nerve affected.

Chiropractic through the use of an adjustment, restores proper alignment and movement to the spine. In addition, any alteration in nerve function is removed, and allows the body to heal itself naturally at a greatly accelerated rate.

What is an Adjustment?

An “adjustment” is the method in which a Doctor of Chiropractic restores proper biomechanics to a spinal segment or extremity. Any joint in the body can enter into a state of altered biomechanics and affect the nearby nervous system structures. Through the use of various techniques such as Diversified, Gonstead, Activator, Thompson, just to name a few, a Chiropractor will deliver a specific controlled force to the affected joint and return it to a proper biomechanical state.

Each adjustment delivered in our office is specifically chosen for the individual. We do not adapt the patient to our style of adjusting, we are able to change our style to meet the patients’ needs.

Can this help ME?

YES! Everyone can benefit from Chiropractic care.

If you are in a state of acute pain, then chiropractic care will take on a dramatic role. This situation is often the most rewarding part of being a chiropractor because it develops a quick bond between us and our patients. There is a three part system that we have in place to cure your tissues. First, we focus on relieving the pain you are in; then we begin removing the cause of that pain and, finally, we develop a method of maintaining the new state of health through rehabilitative exercise, flexibility drills and periodic adjustments when necessary.

Rate your pain! On a scale of 0 (no pain) to 10 (severe, debilitating) pain where are your aches and pains? If your rating rarely gets over a 4 or 5 then chiropractic will be less dramatic but no less effective. Just like the person who is in acute pain with a rating of 10, we first try to remove any pain you may have, and then remove the cause. Often, the final stage of your care is to determine what types of illness or behaviors are present to cause the situation. We assist in removing those barriers when possible through education or other types of rehabilitation.

You will notice that with Chiropractic care your overall health level increases and you are able to be a more active person. Everyone from geriatric to infants can benefit from the services we provide.

How long will it take?

Each person reacts differently to Chiropractic care. Because it is physical medicine the total number of treatments required to correct your symptoms may vary. Severity of the problem, the physical condition of the person with the problem and the length of time that this problem has been present usually affect the speed of recovery.

Every patient has individual treatment needs. On average each patient comes to our office for 4-8 visits to correct their initial complaint. More adjustment visits combined with education and support keep the body feeling great or, at times, motivate our patients to continue a good lifestyle change. The time between these visits may vary but usually it is about 2 days between visits, making the total treatment time period around 8-25 days. A more accurate range can be given following your initial exam and findings related to your individual needs.

How much will it cost?

The cost of health is dependent upon your individual problem. The initial visit is the most expensive because the initial examination, and if necessary X-rays and therapy. An adjustment will also be given on the first visit. On most subsequent visit an adjustment is usually the only treatment cost required.

Depending upon the need for x-rays, the initial visit will range from $90 to $250 and each follow up visit around $40. Out of pocket expenses are based on individual insurance coverage and payments. We will submit to your insurance plan for you or assist in your effort. We work with your coverage and co-pay. We accept most PPO plans, worker’s compensation, and auto insurance. We submit claims for all treatment types including therapeutic massage.

When you take the average cost of Chiropractic care compared with the average cost of regular medical care, it is much less expensive and also takes a shorter period of time to accomplish the desired goal.
